We get these stories from every corner of the world. But this one kicks off in the mountains of Northern Thailand — Day One of a tour with mates, his old man, and a whole lot of road ahead.

Ben was carving his way out of Chiang Mai, heading up to Thailand’s highest peak when he misjudged a bend at around 80kph. A few leaves hiding in the shade of the curve were enough to kick out the back wheel. Next thing he knows, he’s sliding across the asphalt with the bike on top of him.

“I overcooked it. Went wide, lost the rear and just slid under the bike until it flipped off me and hit the railing. I jumped up, and barring a few scratches — was totally fine.

The aftermath: Ben’s bike came off second best.
